"Right near here in Canoga Park California is a factory that made this engine. It was called Rockdtdine but now it is owned by Boeing. The engine is in their parking lot. It is one of my personal landmarks. I have made several images of it. I have the vision that its just come to life and blasted off on its own without any ship or fuel supply."

"When I was a little boy television was just getting into homes. My family got one. The family would watch it but I went around behind the T. V. I was able to detach the back and I would look into the set. I loved the glowing orange vacuum tubes. I thought of it as a city at night in the future. It seemed magical. These drawings of power transmission equipment remind me of my fascination with the insides of the T. V. I find things that are designed not to be looked at are the most rewarding to look at. "

"People have made and used masks a lot over human history. I was wondering why we didn't except for Halloween. Once while I was driving and I looked up in the rear view mirror, I saw a mask looking at me. It was the front of an S.U.V. but it was very anthropomorphic, face like, with big eyes and a mean hungry mouth. These vehicles are so popular for their symbolism. They use a lot of fuel, they drive like trucks, you have to climb into them but they are intimidating. I did a series of drawings of the faces of S.U.V.'s. It's made with paint and canvas but I always use line so I call them drawings "

"One is 35,000 years old, the other is almost 50. The older is thought of as a sculpture and the younger a toy. When they dig us up in 30,000 years or so they will probably think of them as sisters. "

"When I lived downtown I had a nice girlfriend and she went away for the summer. She left her goldfish in my care. It was about an inch long. She won it at a fair. I put it in one of my large aquariums and it grew and grew into a fine sized fish. I named it “Gefilte.” We lived together in a big loft. Gefilte developed a keen interest in my sculpture. He positioned himself in his tank so he could watch me work and he seemed very enthusiastic when a new piece was completed. I thought I would put motorized wheels on his tank with a small joystick in the tank that he could maneuver to drive himself around the studio. I never did, but I made many drawings of this idea. It is just the reverse of our S.C.U.B.A. diving.
The girlfriend never came back but Gefilte and I lived happily together for many years."
